Hi folks! Hettie here..it's been a rocky journey but I'm now ready to find my forever home. I'm a 2 yr old bulldog mix, not too big weighing in at around 35 lbs. I arrived from Georgia in May..I wasn't in great condition at that time so I needed some TLC to start feeling like myself again. ..Until I came into rescue I only knew neglect and discomfort . I'm only 2 but after raising puppies and being in survival mode for so long, it has robbed me of my youth and left me a bit "uptight".  Now that I'm physically feeling better I'm discovering my inner puppy and becoming more playful and silly... I feel best in a relatively quiet, calm environment.  My favorite person atm is a 6 yr old little boy... He just has this calm, respectful nature that I really appreciate. I don't bother with other kids I've met, I mean I've met my favorite so who needs others? I also live with 3 big dogs who get on my nerves sometimes... I like to eat in privacy and don't like them getting too close...same for when I'm getting attention..my foster mom tells me there's enough affection/food to go around but I need a reminder sometimes. Honestly I would rather not have to feel like I need to compete for attention so if there were no other dogs around that would be fine by me.. it's funny it's just the girl dogs that bug me.. I don't mind the boy dog because he doesn't challenge me and let's me take the lead. My Mom says I probably wouldn't bother with cats so unless they steal the attention or my food, I would agree! My previous life on the streets has taught me to be a good scrounger... I like to see if there's anything good in the garbage or the dog food cupboard or if there are any tasty morsels anywhere really...messy eaters are appreciated. I don't mind my cozy crate and sleep in there when it's not my turn to sleep in my foster parents bed....that is my ultimate favorite and I look forward to snuggling under the covers. My foster Mom says I'm the best walker... I like to stay nice and close, don't pull,  walk by people and dogs with just a passing glance and will happily stop for breaks.  I've learned a few words too...i know sit, come, off, up and stay. I'm up for adventures so I like my car rides and going to the cottage or new places. My most favorite thing to do is cuddle.. I would do it all day long if I could..a day of cuddles and snacks is my dream day. Here's a few words from my foster Mom ... "Hettie had done a 360 since she's been with us. When she first came covered in scabs with patches of hair missing and completely withdrawn , I new she needed alot of TLC, patience and time to decompress in order for her to start healing and get a taste of the good life. Once Hettie finds her person, she will attach to you quickly and whomever adopts her will be lucky enough to have a companion for life. Hettie is a guardian and will let you know when a visitor is at the door or when someone is walking by . Hettie is loyal , she will be the first to greet you at the door and the last to give you cuddles at night. Hettie has those kind eyes..the "thank you for helping me, giving me love and showing me the "light" eyes . She's so grateful and sweet..." So there you have it... I don't need alot.. just TLC , kindness and patience while I get comfortable and learn to really lean in to my new life. I'm tired of being so serious and I'm really trying to embrace the puppy inside me. If you are ready to join me on my journey please apply.. https://www.hankshaven.ca/info/adoption
